Most people are under the impression that a debt collector can only be held at bay if they do something inappropriate or the debt i invalid. The fact of the matter is, even if you refuse to pay a valid debt, a written letter to them stating such binds them to no longer call. Some have been known to stipulate willingness to accept calls if payments are arranged in order to stop the "pay it all or else" knuckleheads that tell you no payments are avail.

Did not know this. I know they are just doing their jobs but the calls can get annoying. I think if people just communicate and not avoid them they will be more likely to stop calling as much.

THis is true. I have had to actually tell the debt collectors to stop calling and they have. I had to file bankrupsy and I detered all calls to the lawyer. I went through this because a business of mine fell through and I was left with lots of debt.

Yes, I am sick of the calls too. I just recently joined the forum and looking to improve my credit score. I have found some information useful but looking for an expert to tell me the "in's" and "out's".
