Prepaid Credit Card – Pros and Cons

Credit cards have become very popular within the range of modern American population; they are a great way to avoid being robed of the amounts of cash that you can carry around as well as good means of doing the shopping as long as you maintain them within the manageable limits of your credit card.

But these sorts of things can be considered idealistic as the fact that you own a credit card only leads you to the feeling that you do not spend too much, but when the end of the month comes and you see the billing the heaven of owning a credit card turns to hell. Not to mention that there is also the risk if your credit card to be hacked by the credit card thieves and to be used by them for their own expenses on your name.

These are the reasons why credit card companies have become very strict and skeptical when taking in application forms for the credit cards. Now whenever a poor credit is proven on a previous card, then the application can easily be rejected.

This is quite embarrassing for employees who need it whenever they need to travel and must book the ticket, the reservation or rent a car. All these are done either online or by phone where details of the credit cards are asked for.

The prepaid credit cards are an alternative for these sorts of people who need credit card. They are pretty much seen as debit cards as an account is opened working as a monetary deposit and through the prepaid credit card the payments can be issued to various needs. The advantage of owning a prepaid credit card is that you can spend as much as you have deposited in your account, as such no bills to pay, no deepening into debt.

A disadvantage however is that the companies that issue these prepaid credit cards set up fees for both opening and maintaining the account of this prepaid credit card account. Therefore others will come, such as pay an annual membership fee, pay taxes on the deposited amount, all these similar to owning a credit card.

Another big disadvantage is that the majority of online merchants are reluctant to accept payments made through prepaid credit cards. This is because they do not have any guarantee that the account can cover the payment for a certain online purchase.

As such it can be a problem for the prepaid credit card holders when it comes to pay when applying for monthly subscription to Internet service companies or when it comes to purchase things sold at an interest of zero percent. With a prepaid credit card you should weight the pros and cons, but just keep in mind that this one can keep you away of getting into debt.
